The City of Lafayette Engineering and Public Works Department has released its weekly construction schedule for the Lafayette BART Bike Station and Pathway Project covering the week of Monday, October 19. Managed from municipal offices at 3675 Mount Diablo Boulevard, Suite 210, the capital improvement program upgrades multimodal commuter connections along the northern edge of downtown. Every municipal engineering official and transit planner confirmed that the project remains on schedule as autumn structural work advances.

During the week of October 19, contractors will perform concrete formwork, slurry cement base installation, structural concrete pours, and structural steel erection for the new enclosed bicycle station adjacent to the Lafayette BART station at 3601 Deer Hill Road. Once completed, the weather-protected bike pavilion and widened pathway will provide electronic-card bicycle parking and safer pedestrian access connecting Mount Diablo Boulevard, Happy Valley Road, and Deer Hill Road. Commuters traveling from Lafayette, Moraga, Orinda, and Walnut Creek will gain a continuous, ADA-compliant active transportation link directly into the station concourse.

Funding for the bicycle station and pathway project is supported by Metropolitan Transportation Commission and Contra Costa Transportation Authority grant funding in partnership with the Bay Area Rapid Transit District. Members of the Lafayette City Council and the municipal transportation commission prioritized the Deer Hill Road corridor after commuter surveys identified secure bike storage as essential for easing station parking demand. Regional air quality board analysts noted that replacing short solo car trips with bicycle connections significantly reduces suburban commuter emissions.

To maintain safe corridor flow next week, city officials advised Lamorinda drivers, cyclists, and BART riders to expect intermittent daytime construction equipment staging between 8:00 AM and 4:30 PM Monday through Friday. Flagging crews and directional signs will guide pedestrians around concrete trucks while keeping all Lafayette BART station entrances and passenger drop-off zones open. Riders traveling toward Oakland, Berkeley, Concord, and San Francisco on the yellow BART line will experience no train schedule delays during steel erection.

Residents and commuters can inspect project site plans, weekly construction schedules, and pathway maps online at lovelafayette.org or bart.gov. Questions regarding daytime equipment staging or neighborhood traffic management may be directed to the City of Lafayette Engineering and Public Works Department at (925) 284-1951. Additional progress reports will be presented to the city council infrastructure committee in November.
