Civic and economic development initiatives are accelerating across East Contra Costa County this week as Brentwood prepares for an advanced aerospace showcase and neighboring Antioch convenes a special municipal leadership session. The City of Brentwood Economic Development division at 150 City Park Way announced on Sunday, October 18, that California-based Joby Aviation will bring its mobile electric air taxi flight simulator to Brentwood from Thursday, November 5 through Saturday, November 7. Regional transportation commissioners and business council leaders from Brentwood, Antioch, Concord, and Walnut Creek noted that clean aviation investments could bring over $25 million in future workforce and infrastructure funding to the East Bay.

Joby Aviation's interactive electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) simulator features an authentic pilot seat, panoramic visual displays, and responsive electric aircraft flight controls. During the three-day November program in Brentwood, organizers will host dedicated VIP flight sessions for military veterans, aerospace briefings for East Contra Costa civic and business leaders, and free public access hours for families and students. School district officials and municipal economic development staff emphasized that hands-on aviation demonstrations inspire high school students to pursue local engineering and technical pathways.

In neighboring Antioch, the Antioch City Council will hold a special closed-session meeting at Antioch City Hall, located at 200 H Street, on Monday, October 19, to discuss appointing an interim city manager. The special session follows the council's October 7 meeting where Acting City Manager Ana Cortez remained in place to oversee municipal departments and daily operations. During a separate October council vote, an ethical investment screening motion failed to advance for lack of a second.

Alongside municipal governance discussions, cultural preservation leaders at the Antioch Historical Society Museum at 1500 West Fourth Street are recruiting volunteer board members through Sunday, October 25. The museum's governing board seeks residents with expertise in finance, nonprofit governance, and community fundraising to guide its comprehensive 2027 museum transformation project. Historical commission members noted that expanding interactive exhibits will strengthen heritage education for 100 percent of visiting East County elementary school classes.

Residents interested in the Joby Aviation eVTOL simulator schedule can contact the Brentwood Economic Development division at 150 City Park Way by calling (925) 516-5400 between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday or visiting brentwoodca.gov. Agendas for Monday's Antioch City Council special session are posted at antiochca.gov or available through the city clerk's office at 200 H Street at (925) 779-7000. Prospective Antioch Historical Society Museum board applicants may review governance details at antiochhistoricalmuseum.org before the October 25 deadline.
