Fire captains and emergency operations specialists with the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District hosted dozens of Central County homeowners on Tuesday for an interactive wildfire preparedness open house at Station 6 in Concord.

The educational demonstration showcased recent regional investments in wildfire suppression technology, including high-definition thermal imaging reconnaissance drones, automated satellite smoke detection sensors installed across Mount Diablo ridgelines, and enhanced zone evacuation protocols. Fire prevention officers emphasized that prolonged dry autumn winds require vigilant vegetation clearance across suburban-wildland interface neighborhoods in Concord, Clayton, and Pittsburg.

District leadership shared data demonstrating that homes maintaining thirty feet of lean, clean, and green defensible space alongside sixty feet of reduced fuel buffers experience a 90 percent survival rate during active wind-driven vegetation fires. Battalion Chief Marcus Rodriguez demonstrated specialized wildland fire engine apparatus and explained how remote aerial cameras transmit real-time thermal coordinates to emergency dispatch command within seconds of brush ignition.

Concord community leaders and volunteer Firewise neighborhood committee members attended the briefing, reviewing regional evacuation maps and registering older residents for localized siren notification tests. Con Fire inspectors from the fire prevention department are offering complimentary on-site residential defensible space evaluations to help property owners identify ember-vulnerable wooden fencing, dry pine needle accumulations, and overgrown ornamental juniper bushes.

Residents can schedule a free defensible space inspection through the district's online portal or by calling Station 6 headquarters on Port Chicago Highway Monday through Friday between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM. Contra Costa County officials will conduct an annual emergency mass notification siren drill on Saturday, October 24, at 11:00 AM. Emergency management leaders urged all households to verify their emergency contact profiles in the county's Community Alert Network database to receive critical neighborhood-specific evacuation instructions.
