The Contra Costa County Fire Protection District will host its popular annual community open house and public safety exposition on Saturday, October 10, in Concord. District leadership and professional firefighters will open the doors of their central training and administrative campus to offer local residents, students, and families an engaging educational experience centered on modern emergency response and community disaster preparedness.

This year's educational campaign centers on the theme of charging into fire safety and recognizing safe battery handling as a community superpower. With lithium-ion batteries and consumer electronics present in virtually every household, fire prevention specialists aim to educate Concord families on preventing battery thermal runaways, properly charging rechargeable devices, and maintaining reliable residential smoke alarms. The family-friendly event provides East Bay residents of all ages a unique opportunity to connect directly with front-line first responders.

Throughout the four-hour morning program, ConFire crews will execute dynamic live rescue demonstrations, including hydraulic vehicle extrications, specialized high-angle rope rescues, and pressurized hose line deployments. Attendees can inspect modern fire engines, examine heavy rescue apparatus, and visit interactive informational booths staffed by regional emergency medical technicians, wildfire mitigation experts, and arson investigation canine teams. Complimentary food and non-alcoholic refreshments will be provided for all visiting community members.

The event will run from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at ConFire Station 8 and District Headquarters, located at 2945 Treat Boulevard in Concord. Free on-site visitor parking and designated bicycle staging will be coordinated by district volunteers and public safety personnel. Community members with questions regarding the open house schedule or community fire safety programs can contact the district public education office by telephone at (925) 941-3300.

District leaders emphasize that advance preparation and home fire safety awareness substantially reduce emergency incidents across Contra Costa County communities. Families attending the open house will receive free home escape plan templates, electrical safety checklists, and promotional safety badges for young children. Additional fire prevention resources, neighborhood defensible space guidelines, and district news updates are accessible year-round through the official ConFire district portal.
