Parks superintendents with the City of Concord Parks & Recreation Department and volunteer course stewards from the Diablo Disc Golf Club dedicated eighteen reconstructed concrete tee pads, dual-position championship disc golf targets, a 55-foot solar picnic arbor, and a repaved 0.9-mile perimeter walking loop on Sunday afternoon at Hillcrest Community Park at 2050 Olivera Road (at Grant Street) in northern Concord. Spanning twenty-six acres of rolling oak-studded knolls and athletic fields just north of Highway 242, Hillcrest Park hosts thousands of weekly walkers, youth soccer families, and East Bay disc golfers.

To eliminate muddy ruts around the park's popular disc golf course and ensure safe separation between flying discs and pedestrian path users, course designers realigned four fairways away from the perimeter walkway and poured eighteen broom-finished five-foot-by-twelve-foot concrete tee pads with engraved porcelain hole-map plaques. Each hole now features two permanent galvanized-steel ground sleeves supporting 28-chain PDGA-championship Mach VII baskets that rotate monthly between recreational and advanced pin placements.

On the central knoll overlooking the first tee and soccer fields, carpenters erected a 55-foot-by-24-foot incense-cedar group picnic pavilion topped with a 6.2-kilowatt solar roof. The clean-energy canopy powers evening LED pathway bollards, USB charging outlets at eight accessible picnic tables, and a chilled water bottle refilling station alongside the newly repaved 0.9-mile perimeter walking path.

The $420,000 Hillcrest Park improvement was approved by the Concord City Council through Measure V capital funds and volunteer in-kind contributions. Park maps and group picnic reservations are available on the City of Concord Parks & Recreation Portal.
