City of Concord and Community Partners Expand Small-Business Microgrant and Bilingual Advising Along Monument Corridor
Economic development specialists offer free storefront permitting help, commercial lease reviews, and digital marketing clinics.

Economic development specialists with the City of Concord, counselors from the Contra Costa Small Business Development Center (SBDC), and community organizers at Monument Impact have launched an expanded autumn schedule of bilingual entrepreneurship clinics and storefront improvement consultations along the Monument Boulevard commercial corridor. Highlighted in an October 2026 update to the Concord City Council, the initiative provides neighborhood restaurateurs, grocers, artisans, and service proprietors with hands-on technical assistance ahead of the year-end holiday shopping season. More than eighty local merchants have participated in the city's corridor advising sessions this year.
Home to one of Contra Costa County's most vibrant concentrations of family-owned markets, bakeries, automotive shops, and professional offices, the Monument Boulevard and Detroit Avenue district serves thousands of daily commuters between Interstate 680 and downtown Concord. Through weekday evening workshops conducted in English and Spanish at 2699 Monument Boulevard and at the Concord Civic Center on Parkside Drive, certified business advisors help proprietors navigate Contra Costa Health food-facility permits, municipal sign ordinances, and point-of-sale accounting software.
To strengthen storefront curb appeal while pedestrian and bicycle safety improvements advance along the corridor, the City of Concord's small-business support program also connects commercial tenants and property owners with matching facade-grant resources for energy-efficient LED awning lighting, fresh exterior paint, and ADA-compliant doorway ramps. Legal aid partners additionally provide free one-on-one commercial lease reviews to help longtime family businesses secure stable multi-year renewals.
Concord entrepreneurs and aspiring business owners can book a confidential advising appointment, download the bilingual Concord Business Resource Guide, or register for November bookkeeping seminars online at cityofconcord.org or by calling (925) 671-3001. Walk-in consultation hours are also hosted every Tuesday afternoon in downtown Concord.
