National Weather Service Warns of Sneaker Waves and 13-to-17-Foot Surf
In an advisory issued around 1:40 a.m. Monday and reported by NBC Bay Area, the National Weather Service warned that long-period ocean swells will create dangerous surf conditions along Pacific Coast beaches during two separate windows this week:
- Two Hazardous Surf Periods: The 1st round of elevated sneaker wave and rip current risk runs through Tuesday evening, followed by a 2nd, stronger round from Thursday through Sunday. Forecasters projected that a 15- to 17-second westerly and northwesterly swell will generate breaking waves reaching 13 to 17 feet between Thursday and Sunday.
- Safety Guidance & Election Day Rain: Authorities urged residents to stay out of the water, keep off coastal rocks, piers, and jetties, and never turn their backs on the ocean. Forecasters also called for light rain across much of the Bay Area on Tuesday—with little or no precipitation in the interior Central Coast—and seasonal to slightly below-average temperatures through Thursday.
K9Reunite Specialist Safely Traps Escaped Rescue Dog "Anchovy Jack" in San Francisco
Along San Francisco's coastal neighborhoods and parks, a weeks-long community search ended safely over the weekend when lost-pet recovery specialist Susan Packer of K9Reunite captured Anchovy Jack, according to Patch:
- Weeks Across 5 San Francisco Neighborhoods: Recently adopted from the East Bay just days after undergoing eye surgery and neutering, the frightened dog bolted from his new home and spent weeks darting across 5 parts of the city—the Sunset, the Richmond, Golden Gate Park, the Marina, and the Presidio—running fast and jumping high whenever Animal Care & Control San Francisco (SFACC) officers approached.
- Humane Trap & Foster Placement: After residents compiled detailed sighting logs, Packer stayed in San Francisco day and night for several days until she secured Anchovy Jack using a humane trap. SFACC reported Sunday that the dog is eating, drinking, and resting comfortably and will be placed with a specialized rescue foster home to recover before returning to adoption.
